Archilas gives AI a memory of the team. For Claude Code, run the installer with your workspace API key. It adds Archilas as an MCP server and a prompt hook, so each prompt can arrive with cited notes from your team. CLAUDE.md still holds fixed project rules. Archilas holds the decisions that change.
Claude Code reads CLAUDE.md files and whatever you paste in. That covers fixed rules like the lint command and the folder layout. It does not cover the things that change: which approach the team chose on Tuesday, which ticket was reverted, who owns the migration. Those decisions sit in Slack threads, pull requests, email, and earlier AI chats.
Two ways the context gets in
- MCP tools. Claude Code can call archilas.ask to ask the workspace a question, archilas.remember to save a note, archilas.changes to see what changed recently, and archilas.forget to delete notes it saved.
- A UserPromptSubmit hook. Before each prompt, the hook sends the prompt text to /api/hook/context. If the workspace has relevant notes, it returns them as added context. If nothing matches, it returns nothing. The hook does not store your prompt. It has a short time budget so it cannot stall the session.
Setup
Sign up (it is free and self-serve), create an API key on the install page, then run the line from the docs: curl -fsSL https://www.archilas.com/install.sh | sh -s -- <api-key>. It needs Node.js 20 or newer. If the claude command is on your PATH, the installer runs claude mcp add --transport http archilas https://www.archilas.com/api/mcp with your key as a bearer header, and writes the hooks into ~/.claude/settings.json.
- --remember also installs a Stop hook that saves a short note when a session ends.
- --no-transcripts turns off session transcript capture. Transcripts are on by default. Secrets are redacted on the server before anything is stored.
- --import-history uploads AI chat history already on the computer. --no-import-history skips it. Without either flag the installer asks.
What leaves your machine
The prompt text goes to Archilas to find matching notes. To write an answer, the question and the matching snippets go to a model provider through OpenRouter. The full list of subprocessors is on the privacy page. If you only want MCP tools and no automatic hook, add the MCP server by hand and skip the installer.
When it should say nothing
If the workspace has no note on a question, the answer says so instead of guessing. That is on purpose. A memory that fills gaps with plausible text is worse than none. See why the agent should say it does not know.

Questions
- Does Claude Code have memory between sessions?
- It reads CLAUDE.md files at the start of a session, which suits fixed project rules. It does not automatically know decisions made elsewhere, such as in Slack, GitHub, or email. An MCP memory server like Archilas adds that.
- How do I add Archilas to Claude Code without the installer?
- Run: claude mcp add --transport http archilas https://www.archilas.com/api/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer <api-key>". That adds the MCP tools only, without the prompt hook.
- Can I stop Claude Code transcripts being uploaded?
- Yes. Install with --no-transcripts, or re-run the installer with that flag to turn capture off.
